Ichizo original armored doll Samurai Boy: Tokugawa Ieyasu has appeared!
This doll comes from our collaboration with SUZUKINE YUZAN in 2004. Combing our simple, modern and fashionable style with SUZUKINE YUZAN’s tastes, we’ve created a magnificent doll.
As for all our dolls, Ichizo’s authenticity is expressed through the fine details. The flexible joints and realistic face are trademarks of Ichizo quality. This particular doll features Tokugawa’s unique helmet Daikoku-zukin Shidamaetatte. According to legend, the armor itself was designed by Ieyasu after a dream he had about Daikokuten, one of the 7 gods of fortune. The helmet was crafted in the image of Daikokuten’s hood and at Ieyasu’s request a fern was added to symbolize long life, happy marriage, and good fortune for his descendants. Later, Ieyasu used this armor during the Siege of Osaka Castle and the battle of Sekigahara, where he claimed victory and unified Japan during the turbulent Warring States period (Sengoku-Jidai).
This fantastic armor is real and handmade just like any armor displayed in the studio of YUZAN SUZUKINE. This armor was destined for the realistic design of the ICHIZO doll, since all our dolls are crafted, painted, and detailed by hand with no printing or machinery. Therefore each doll has no copy, making all of them truly special.
For example, the doll’s eyes are carefully drawn, using a blend of six colors. In this way, there is a gentle expression not found with other dolls. The detail extends down to the fingers and toes, showcasing fine craftsmanship. The doll itself is fully articulated allowing you to display it in any pose you desire.
The Samurai Boy may be small but it’s still very gallant. For those who adore the Warring States Period of Japan, this doll is for you. This also makes the perfect gift for friends and family who are just beginning their journey through life, as the fern is a strong symbol of family-lineage in Japan.
In Japan, ICHIZO dolls are highly evaluated as art. Adhering to its’ hand-drawn and finishing techniques, this doll makes a fine addition to any collection.
