”Armor of Masamune Date (1/4 scale)”
Armorsmith Suzukine-Yuzan has reproduced, at 1/4 scale, the full armor of the Sengoku warrior Masamune Date.
Masamune Date is one of the most famous and popular Sengoku warriors. Upon becoming the head of his house, he conquered and controlled the entire northern region of Japan in only 6 years. He was also respected for his fashion sense, as known from a common Japanese saying: “Date-mono” (Stylish like Date – used for when someone looks really cool). His inspiring armor is pure black, offering a simple yet beautiful design. It’s been said the character design of Darth Vader from the famous movie saga: Star Wars was based off this original armor. The gold crescent moon on his helmet was also a trademark image.
Suzukine-Yuzan has reproduced this stunning piece at 1/4 scale in the following fashion:
• The armor is iron, coated with a layer of varnish.
• The abdomen plate is formed from 5 iron plates connected around the torso and the waist is the connected with navy blue string.
• The helmet is made from 62 thin triangular shaped plates that are bound together.
• The crescent moon horn is 24 karat gold plating.
Suzukine-Yuzan’s armor is all handmade. Even though different materials may be used from their original counterparts, each piece is created separately and brought together to mimic the real armor’s design and feeling.
For those who adore Japanese history, culture, or just armor, this piece will make a fine addition to your collection.
